Exactly what I was thinking. I have some clients who might be interested in donating to said cause for a piece of future profits and a tax write off. But I wouldn't approach them with out something solid.

Wind, Bio-Diesel, and Algae are all great things to start with.

I hope so too.

so lest say someone donates 5k to the initial costs, works and lives on the land, improving the buildings and infrastructure, and then the government purchases lands and turbines, would said person get a percent of the profit? is this an investment or a donation, i guess is what i'm asking.

I would say Investment. But for Tax Reasons make it a donation.

If we can make a strong enough production on just the substance extracted for the algae Boeing has already stated that within the coming years all airline travel will be fueled by this source. Profit? ( I think there initial idea was 50% by next year or couple of years)

That is what I was thinking. We could build the pools for cheap as fuck and with the dead-lands it's a perfect area. The only thing that would be a major problem is winter. But proper temp control and we should be fine.

prob design some kind of automated and temp controlled retractable green house but one major flaw for this town at this moment in time is basic utilities n shit (water, gas, power, sewerage). i see everyone has a say on renueable resources but nothing to about where they're going to take a shit, throw there garbage or wash there hands.

Also the original article states that around 700 cars pass through the area daily, that can be a starting profit for hwy shops like gas stations and fast food. should start a fast food joint where all workers are equal part owners of the franchise and you might have a starting position for profit or funding.

fuck gasoline you can use a bike instead of a car...
but i seriously think that there are gas stations within a reasonable distance
also if the idea of using windturbines and stuff is gonna be the one that we go with, it would be a good thing to make our own bio fuel to add to that idea.

One thing I am big on, especially living in an area that is so small, this is more a commune, lets face it guys, that being said, I think horses are a big way to go. One thing I would be big into is building an indoor riding arena and barn where we can store, feed, and work our horses during the winter. During the spring, summer and fall they would be ideal for getting around out there. Call me crazy but they do provide a lot of usefulness. Don't want a horse ride a bike. I know for a fact we can get work out of horses on plows as well during the planting and harvesting seasons.

thats actualy not a bad idea, the horse shit can be used to make biogas
sure it takes alot of food and care to have enough horses for an entire town, but i could see this work out pretty well

other than that i dont realy think that we would need that many means of transportation, its not exactly the largest town, so to start out it could be a couple of horses and somewhere near 5 cars/trucks for getting suplies from the outside world

The people will want the ability to move freely without constraint, unless the town is hooked up to a public form of transportation i don't think people will stay for long. With a town so small how long will it take someone else to piss you off enough to want to go to a nearby town for a drink or just to go camping further than walking distance.

so rough plan is:

create proposal of how we plan to revitalize the town using alternative energy and sustainable practiceis and use this to get grants and entice investors

get hella money

fluffysheepz matches it

buy town

make profitable

move in, start farming

buy surrounding lands

increase profit proportional to owned land area

eventually buy up all of the country, or as much as we can get away with, just for the lulz

we need a very likely way of making money. As for farming it will be more efficient to buy food from farmers don't you think?

Nix on the island unless your a pedo bear

no the town is a dilapidated shit hole we can build up with our own hands like boom-towns in the west

My mother was an accountant and my father sat in a cubicle his entire life

I want to be able to say "I built a town before" i die...

And we would be building. All of those shacks need to be rebuilt or bulldozed and we need to build temporary structures and new permanent buildings

P.S. we can start a weed growing operation (away from the town with a few people involved so the govt. cant fuck with the community if they get busted)

and use that income to help build the place up.

Four things:

1. You're a good man, FluffySheepz.

2. We're deluding ourselves if we think that we can avoid the association with Anonymous. It is done, there is no taking it back. The /b/ connection has no relevance as nobody in the mainstream knows what it, or 4chan are aside from the connection to Anonymous.

This connection is going to be both our greatest asset, and potentially our greatest liability. It all depends on how we handle it.

We all know Anonymous isn't (primarily) an actual group, it's a symbol and symbols are powerful.

3. I would humbly suggest the focus should be on sustainability, not profit. Any suggestion of a profit-motive will make people instantly suspicious and could squander any latent good will we're likely to experience.

4. This town COULD be the best option, definitely, but is there really a reason we are fixating on this particular piece of land? Because it was in the news? Because of the cache of buying a town? I would suggest that people start looking at other land, other states, even other countries.

We have an incredibly resource of researchers at our disposal, why settle for the first thing to come to our attention?

you guys, wouldn't it be better to start of by just buying our own property in an agreed upon location with good weather or finding a couple of friends interested and jointly buying a property? I for one plan to work somewhere else and save money for one part of the year and party, see good live music, contribute organizing and donating to building this town up.

I agree to a degree. Odd I know. Well it will be a good and a bad thing, but applying for the grants will not be possible if the first thing someone thinks of is /b/ when they look at what we are trying to achieve.

Gravitas wrote:3. I would humbly suggest the focus should be on sustainability, not profit. Any suggestion of a profit-motive will make people instantly suspicious and could squander any latent good will we're likely to experience.

I agree completely. I will be make money myself, regardless of the town and I did not offer this for a profit. I am doing it because it is a hilarious and awesome idea, as well as a means for something to keep me busy.

Agreed again. My commitment is to the IDEA not the place.
