an average american average of 2,638 calories a day, that is 238 calories more than what is recomended
asuming that there will be 200 residents in the town that is 527.600 calories a day (calculated from the average calories consumed)
that is 48.011.600 calories every 3 months

the way that u want to make the food seems to be using a aquaponics system
the plants that are grown in aquaponic systems have a average of 80-90 calories per 100 grams
that would meen that we would need 56,5 tones of vegetables every 3 months to be able to feed the residents in the town
so lets say that the plants will have an average of 500 grams of vegetables per plant (im guessing here, but its with a little knowledge about vegetables), then we will need 112.969 plants to feed the town

i know that the aquaponics system also will provide os with fish, but im not gonna try to add that to the calculation atm.

yea trees would be good to plant as well
rice would be very hard to grow in the climate.
and beans would be one of the things that would be grown in the aquaponics system

Rapid City, SD is only about 40 miles away and is the 2nd largest city in SD. I believe it would be cheaper, easier, and faster to source the necessary items from Rapid City then to develop the infrastructure needed to produce them ourselves.

i think it should be a hybrid. of course we won't be able to have both speed and money. with one, you lose the other.

to start out we would need to get food from other cities, but once the infrastructure is working properly, we should be able to make our own food and power

Well we could have a community garden were everyone takes care of it, so no one feels they are doing all the work. Also if we could get every resident to have a small garden of their own then that should be more than enough to supply 200 people with food and more. I do not now how everyone feels about taking care of plants but I find it relaxing and enjoy watching them grow.

things we should import:
rice, meat, most tree fruit and nuts, flour, seasonings, ect

things we can grow in our homes:
tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, corn, lettuce, cabbage, strawberries, melons, beans, squash, herbs, aloe, ginger, ect ect
this way we can have a decent supply all year round, until we get the surrounding fields in order.

Im all for backyard gardens for use to grow certain things that we wont be wanting in bulk
and I think we should each keep a hen or two for eggs in our yards, and Im personally gonna go for turkey eggs, the birds get bigger younger and the meat will be good through the winter by harvesting a few chicks
other than that, for meat im opting for hunting and fishing
