I hate to be anti-social or something, but are we allowing any person to join us? I do not think we want some people. There will be people who want to abuse this society, take it over, ruin it. Should there be some sort of immigration rules? Tests? Standards for becoming a citizen of anontown?

This is a big concern for me.
I'm thinking any potential members must be of a certain caliber.
The only way to properly determine this would be to have any person wanting to join sit down with a board of people and talk.
The board would then decide if they liked the person or not.

They would look for traits like work ethic, reason for joining, ability to function in a society, and tolerance of others.

I was thinking about that earlier.

I'm actually kind of worried mildly about the nature of bringing together a bunch of anons. Anons on the internet are one thing, the things we say and do when we know there's no consequence.

But a town filled with hardcore sexists, racists, rapists, pedophiles, and sociopaths ...

Well, I don't mind that so much, but I am a little scared of the possibility of it turning into Straw Dogs, irl.

Alternatively, the Scenic Chainsaw murder.

Good thing we have not one, but two jails in town.

As far as "members of a certain caliber", I would say anyone willing to do hardcore manual labor, anyone that just has something to add to the community. Things I can think we'll definitely be wanting: anyone with a military background, anyone with agricultural knowledge, anyone with an understanding of law, anyone skilled with engineering, etc.

When you think about it, a large portion of the anons that would be joining us will have a heavy background in working with computers. I don't think there's really anything wrong with someone that can work remotely.

I think it would be stupid to have someone join our town and have nothing to do. There will be no basement dwellers in Anontown, I hope. You'll have to actively join a community. A community of former basement dwellers, mind you, but a community nonetheless.

Well, I see it like this: people are relatively normal but for some reason, you get in a car and roadrage happens. You wouldn't cut someone off if you were on the sidewalk, scream at people for moving too slowly. And it's all because you don't really see their face and connect the dots that they're human.

I'm counting on the human element definitely mitigating the situation.

I want to hope that it isn't, that 4Chan is like computer anonymous roadrage, but I have to wonder if the ratio of people with mental issues of the Showing Up to Work with an AK47 variety might be even slightly elevated.

yea the percantage of the people that are on 4chan that are insane might be a little higher than the percentage of people that are not on 4chan that are insane.

I think the only restrictions to joining should be to work the job you are given and follow the basic laws of humanity. NO Raping, NO Murder, NO Stealing. Other than that everyone should be welcome. If someone breaks these laws is another issue.

I do not like this idea but I see the need for it. Though finding a good method to judge people is difficult. I think there should be a general intelligence test ranging from basic survival skills to specialized skill we will need to keep a town running. there should probably be a physical test as well, because we do not need someone that cannot work for twenty minutes without looking like they are going to fall over. Of course age will play a factor and overall health to begin with.

so you are fine with anyone showing up, including murderers? Im not talking about self defense car accidents, im talking intentional homicide, how bout rapists?

Im not saying anything of the sort gets them a big fat no entry band, but those are the people we want to have in therapy at the very least. and what about real pedos? I mean I HIGHLY doubt anyone with a family will be looking to join this at the get go, but hey, babies are going to happen.

I think our security group, under vow of silence, should do a background check, Im not saying we paint on your shirt a sign that says does not return loans or hit on a bitch and she claimed harassment.

I would not trust or allow any Anon with my personal information until I met everyone face to face. Personal privacy is one of the constantly-diminishing freedoms people can enjoy these days, so until I knew who exactly was going to be dealing with the information, I'd keep everyone in the dark. That's just me personally, though.

I'd just like to say at this moment that those who are paranoid about anons all meeting together in real life actually have little to worry about. Moot himself has expressed that he actually considers us a pretty sociable bunch in real life. Even Adrian Chen, the man who makes his LIVING on criticizing 4chan, stated that members of 4chan are not as threatening in real life.

Perhaps joining could be as simple as a vouch from a current member. Then there would be no strangers and the friend of the new member would introduce the new member to the rest of the community.

That is assuming that the town is as close knit as I imagine it though.

Police solve/prevent so little of the crimes actually committed that statistically we would fire anyone else for such poor results. As low as 1% solve rate in certain cities. I personally don't believe in police so much as deterrents which is in fact all the police actually are. This is America and people can own guns, as well as carry them. I can at least. I am not saying wild west style law but a thief will certainly think twice before stealing if he knows he'll have to deal with an entire town prepared to enforce their laws as opposed to one person the whole town cowers behind.

Law enforcement is a bit of ridiculous notion in an intentional community. Not to mention it would likely get us classified as some sort of paramilitary/militia organization by the feds, which would draw a whole lot of unwanted attention.

If someone causes trouble, they get exiled. We have that right, as any community we develop would be privately owned.

As far as I'm concerned, for a community of under 100 or so people, the only legal institution needed is a dedicated mediator; someone authorized under a constitution to make binding decisions in the community.

instead of a police force how about a town militia, every get trained for a certain job in a town crisis like theft or some get trained to fight fires or help in weather emergencies and in a town were everyones ready to jump into action theft shouldnt be a problem.
the only main problem i can think of is bikers when the sturgis rally happens maybe causing some havoc but nothing major.
